Have you ever had that moment when you listen to a song and everything about it makes sense? That moment you’re certain you’ve found your soulmate in the world of music and you don’t see how you could be more sure of anything else?
In the middle of a rough week earlier this summer, I turned to 8tracks in hopes of finding appropriate mood music, and that’s where The Paper Kites and I met for the first time.
For me to thoroughly enjoy a song, it doesn’t take a lot. Give me great lyrics, a killer beat, or a memorable guitar riff (see Enter Sandman) and I’m sold. Featherstone, however, caught my attention with one line. That’s all it took. Just one line.
“And we’ll hate what we’ve lost, but we’ll love what we find.”
It’s the most simple line in the entire song, but it speaks volumes. It’s a nice reminder of how important it is to let go of your past, even if it’s something you’re sure you can never replace. Although you may hate what you’re losing, something far greater lies ahead.
The Paper Kites will be joining City and Colour in Phoenix this fall, so it’s time to start saving my pennies for what is sure to be a stellar show.
